Elegio al Madrebien

In November of 1952, Salto meets Robert Motherwell and is struck by the raw impact of his Elegy series dedicated to the suffering of the citizens of the Spanish Republic. In his remebrance of the civil war under the hated Francisco Franco, Salto interprets Motherwell's brasen black swashes with additional colors. He names this series after a nickname "Madrebien", a loose spanish translation for "Motherwell".
